Remember the middle of the first year of the pandemic? Remember feeling trapped in your home? Remember the days kind of bleeding together? Not a ton to laugh or smile about there—unless you were Cafe Rio. Fast-casual dining and delivery booming, and they were coming out with a whole new menu option. In the midst of doom and gloom, they wanted a comedic campaign. So we threaded the needle of despair and political upheaval, to tell a story about a family going insane. We lovingly call it ‘Best Year Ever’.
We got lucky with the casting (it’s a real family) and our Director Clay Wiener (great at run-and-gun improvisational stuff). Maybe I’m biased, but these are certainly my favorite pandemic spots. But also, results: media placements reported 70% returns, and Carne Asada sold out in a ton of places.
Round 2: Brisket
The first spot went so well, we went back for seconds. This time: smokey, succulent, dare-I-say sexy Brisket. Launch was near Valentines Day, so we kept the manic/delusional family dynamic and added a romantic twist.
